Sam Oitice - Firefighter

Sam Oitice

Sam was born in Peekskill, NY. He grew up in that community, where he served as a police officer for 4 years before joining FDNY in 1983. His first company was E94 in the Bronx. He transferred to L4 in midtown Manhattan where he served until 911.

Sam was also a volunteer fireman in the city of Peekskill. He was responsible for forming a high angle rescue team in the department there. He also was responsible for the education of the children in the school district, doing fire safety classes all year round in the schools, as well as at various senior citizen complexes int he city. His ties to his home town were very strong.

He and his wife, Jean, started a roller hockey league for kids ages 5-18 and ran it for 6 years. He was also responsible for setting up a league that encompassed all the teams in the Hudson Valley. The League later named their championship cup after Sam.

He was survived by his wife, Jean and children John and Jessica as well as his parents, Julian and Eleanor Oitice and brother Joseph.
